We all know winter is on its way. And HVAC contractors — who brave all types of weather conditions — are using this time to prepare their field technicians and installers for cold weather and the ice, sleet, and snow that come with it.
Ergonomics can be defined as the science of designing the job to fit the worker rather than physically forcing the worker’s body to fit the job. In the HVAC world, this means making tools as user-friendly to a technician’s body as possible.
There are many reasons why some choose to work unsafely, but a big one is just being lazy. Try to avoid this and always take the extra time needed to work safely.
HVAC workers often have more autonomy than people working on a construction site, for example, and must therefore also be self-policing when it comes to wearing hard hats.
Contractors that are aware of this potential issue and how to address it can take steps to mitigate the problem — preventing accident and injury and maintaining their reputation for delivering quality work.
