The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced new energy efficiency standards for electric motors and for walk-in coolers and freezers. According to the DOE, these standards combined are expected to provide businesses with $26 billion in energy savings through 2030.

In restaurants, those large, walk-in refrigerators and freezers need to be energy efficient to help maintain sometimes thin profit margins. And they need to run quietly so as not to disturb customers who may find themselves seated close to the kitchen.

Designed to control refrigeration units, the KE2 Temp + Defrost saves time on installation by eliminating the need for both a time clock and defrost thermostat, the company said, requiring only wires to connect power, solenoid, and temperature sensor.
