Engineers and architects took the seemingly impossible task of recycling an outdated industrial factory into a LEED-Gold showcase of some of the HVAC industry’s most innovative equipment for Asheboro, N.C.-based Randolph Community College (RCC).

A new book from ASHRAE, “District Cooling Guide,” provides design guidance for all major aspects of district cooling systems, including guidance on central chiller plants, chilled-water distribution systems, and consumer interconnection.

While it may never be possible for an HVAC contractor to chill out on the job, installing and servicing chillers continues to be easier and easier, as, according to several manufacturers, today’s chillers are being designed with the contractor in mind.

When it comes to large equipment that powers HVAC systems, the old saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” definitely rings true. And nowhere is an ounce of prevention more beneficial than with chiller maintenance.
