January 22, 2015
A Stony Brook University research team has been awarded $2 million from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA-E) to develop a smart air conditioning vent capable of modulating airflow distribution, velocity, and temperature, designed for commercial or residential use.
The Versatile Simplicity SE controls feature a built-in LCD display and navigation joystick that provide quick access to menus that display unit status, options, and current functions; supply, return, and outdoor temperatures; fault codes; and other information.
The SmartChip is an aftermarket product that intelligently controls both the fan and compressor runtimes to maximize HVAC system efficiency and, ultimately, save on utility costs.

Allure Energy Inc. has unveiled a new combination of iBeacon and NFC-enabled smart sensor technology called Aura™, and has been named an International CES Innovations 2014 Design and Engineering Awards honoree for EverSense™, a smart thermostat that automatically adjusts temperature based on a user’s GPS location.
Instead of just reading the literature or talking to their distributor about the product, some contractors are literally bringing their work home with them by installing these products inside their own residences.
As technology is becoming increasingly accessible and interconnected, consumer demand is fueling the rise of intelligent products in the HVAC marketplace.
