Zebra Technologies Corp. and Atmel® Corp. announced the demonstration of a smart refrigeration Internet of Things (IoT) reference design at NRF 2016 in New York City. The companies said the IoT reference design provides an easy-to-deploy, cloud-based temperature monitoring solution.

Gartner Inc. forecasts that 6.4 billion connected devices will be in use worldwide in 2016, up 30 percent from 2015, and will reach 20.8 billion by 2020. In 2016, 5.5 million new devices will get connected every day.
According to ON World, safety and security products currently make up 30 percent of smart home devices. The fastest-growing product segments include video security cameras, smart doorbells, and smart smoke detectors, which together boast 162 percent sales increases when compared to 2014.
