Humility and curiosity typically aren’t synonymous with leadership. Humility, after all, is generally reflective; it stems from acknowledgement that you don’t have all the answers. Curiosity, on the other hand, confidently proclaims that no matter how fixed you may be in your current resolve, you’re hungry enough to know that there are other possibilities beyond what you currently know and hold to be true.

The HVAC industry, and in particular the replacement sector, is attractive to private equity investors because of its exposure to a large base of installed equipment that requires regular service and, ultimately, replacement. The critical nature of HVAC equipment for ensuring comfort means that customers tend to place the most emphasis on service responsiveness and equipment quality, in addition to price and other considerations.
It is just the society we live in these days. There is a general lack of patience, and when anything goes wrong, people want their pound of flesh. It is your job as the leader of your business to prevent your employees from taking the bait.
There is no federal or state law, rule, or regulation that mandates job descriptions. However, well-written job descriptions that clearly set out the “essential functions” of each job can help avoid or at least help successfully defend some legal claims, as well as contribute to the operational success of the company.
Vision, commitment, consistency, integrity, contribution — these are some of the many values that great leaders hold in the highest regard. Leadership is the “it factor” in any business, especially within an industry that contains a multitude of sources of proven business processes.
