Emerson Climate Technologies has approved DuPont Opteon® XP40 (R-449A) and XP10 (R-513A) for use in a wide range of its scroll and semi-hermetic compressors. This approval paves the way for the use of Opteon refrigerants in new and existing compressors for a number of refrigeration applications.

The company, which has 628 full-time employees at its Bristol location, will first move 50 seasonal workers into permanent positions. Another 60 jobs will be added by the end of April, bringing the number of full-time positions to 738 at the Bristol site.

Voltage unbalances exceeding more than 2 percent in three-phase systems can cause current unbalance among the windings. These voltage and current unbalances can cause an increase in winding temperature and an overheating problem that can be detrimental to the motor.

A major push behind energy efficiency has led many manufacturers to create speed-controlled compressors driven by next-generation refrigerants.
