Put the term Internet of Things into a Google search and you will soon see 752 million results. It has become a buzzword, both inside and outside the HVAC industry. But, does everyone know what the phrase actually encompasses? 

The NEWS' editor-in-chief traveled to Texas and had the opportunity to sit down with Doug Young, COO and president, Lennox Intl. Inc., the day before Young participated in the ACCA CEO Forum. Young provided a general overview of the surging HVAC industry during the discussion.

This diverse class of NEWSmakers represents government regulation, distribution, contracting, and more. Each honoree instituted a noticeable shift in the industry’s future.

DiBenedetto, owner of Homestead, Florida-based All Air of South Dade, took matters into his own hands and formed the Miami-Dade Contractors Alliance in 2011, which works to regain enforcement and curb unlicensed activity.

In 2014, the EPA made it’s biggest splash on Oct. 16, when Gina McCarthy, administrator, EPA, signed the final rule pertaining to allowances for virgin production and importation of HCFCs, primarily R-22, for 2015 through 2019.

With more than 26 years in the industry, Goodrich said he’s acquired more than 60 businesses. At first, it was just to gain customers, but, as time progressed, things changed.

While Gee and HARDI’s leaders remain committed to keeping the government on the straight and narrow, his passion remains HARDI’s growing role within the industry.
