The National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) donated $10,000 to ASHRAE research during its Annual Conference, held March 31 to April 1 in Orlando, Florida. For 17 years, NEBB has been a member of the ASHRAE Golden Circle, a group of contributors who provide significant financial leadership to ASHRAE at the $10,000 and higher level.
Bacharach Inc. adds R-514A to its gas library of detectable refrigerants as chiller applications within the refrigeration industry demand refrigerants with low-global warming potential (GWP). Bacharach’s proprietary non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) technology allows its instrumentation to measure levels as low as 1 ppm of refrigerant, while maintaining high accuracy and enabling the early detection of refrigerant leaks.
Thomas Watson, a former ASHRAE president and retired chief engineer at Daikin Applied, recently received the Institute of Refrigeration’s (IOR) J&E Hall Gold Medal Award for his ground-breaking work to improve the efficiency of chillers and industrial heat pumps.
ASHRAE revised the requirements for its Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP) energy auditor certification. The revised requirements, which took effect March 16, will provide earners with recognition by U.S. government agencies for contracts requiring energy audit services.
ASHRAE and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under the agreement, ASHRAE and KFAS will look for ways to work together in research, conferences and meetings, training programs, and chapter collaboration. Additionally, ASHRAE and KFAS will explore the possibility of translating ASHRAE publications to Arabic as well as coproducing books and other publications.
These 3- to 5-ton units are an addition to Trane’s portfolio of Foundation™ light-commercial rooftop HVAC units. They fit a common roof curb used on many existing commercial buildings and can be installed without the need for an adapter, which saves customers time and money during installation.
Proper indoor air quality and adequate humidity levels are imperative to safe and efficient data center operations. Humidification in data centers is required to prevent electrostatic discharge, which can damage servers and network products, and offers the benefit of high capacity, low cost evaporative cooling.
Fifty-five people were recognized for their contributions to ASHRAE and the industry at the Society’s 2017 Winter Conference, Jan. 28-Feb. 1, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
