Amos Roberts and Bruce Hoffman started the company in 1969 by opening a single location in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Dayton, Ohio-based wholesale HVACR distribution company, which was founded in 1962 by Kevin and Jason Trimbach’s grandfather, Jerry Trimbach, and business partner Jim Winget, now staffs 119 employees.

“I am enthusiastic about my work and the overall industry because we are at a really exciting time with a huge generational change, tons of new technology advancements, and great people to work with,” Roberts said. “With all of that, there is never a dull moment, and there is plenty to work on and change in our industry.”

How do HVAC distributors use the internet to pursue business outside their own geographical areas? After all, the internet has done nothing if not enabled a fledgling bookselling outfit to become a massive commerce giant. Would the Wayfair decision have an impact?

Consider how two-day delivery was coined “Prime” by a vendor like Amazon, but in some cases, that is now eclipsed by same-day delivery. Rationally, people know the circumstances might be different, but those speedy experiences still have an effect on how much patience feels like enough when ordering equipment or parts.

The “it” in this case isn’t the goal of working hard to succeed in the distributor business or even joining forces with other distributors. Ritchey is talking about the measures and programs his company invests in with one objective: assisting HVAC contractors in building and maintaining their own successful businesses.

With 70 years of history, Robertson Supply, a residential and commercial plumbing wholesaler, has eight locations spanning Idaho and Oregon.

“I hope to continue to learn the trade and become the guy people go to when they have tough questions that need answering," Reihm said.
