When S.G. Torrice Co. took on the Trane line, the company knew it was going to need some additional help. Kevin Ronnigen was part of that solution.

“Taking on a second power-house brand is not an easy task, and Torrice had about two months to prepare,” said Ronningen, 39. “When the announcement was made, my friend Brian Pomroy, who’s a territory manager with S.G. Torrice, immediately reached out to me. He knew I was looking for a new career challenge and suggested I contact company CEO, Matt Bedard. Thus, I was introduced to both the industry and the Torrice Company at the same time.”

Ronningen is not a traditional HVACR sales manager.

“My college degree is in communications, and my background consisted of 10 years in the TV news business, followed by 10 years in marketing, planning, and strategy for a health care company,” he said. “Lucky for me, Matt Bedard saw the potential that my skill set could bring to this role and took a chance. I think it’s safe to say we’re both thrilled with how things worked out.”

While Ronningen has learned a lot about the industry over the last year and a half, he recognizes he still has a lot to learn.

“At the end of the day, communicating effectively, using data to support my decisions, and coaching my team through the good times and the bad is what it’s all about,” he said.

Ronningen called the people working within the HVACR industry incredible.

“I’ve never before been surrounded by such a hardworking, passionate group of individuals,” he said. “The people at the distribution level and all of the dealers we work with every day are impressive. I’m honored to be a part of this.”

While he’s only been with the company for 18 months, Ronningen has his sights set on the pilot’s seat.

“I love being a part of a family-owned business,” he said. “The Torrice Company, through incredible leadership, continues to grow every year. I want to be a part of that for a long time. I’m early in my career here, but I’ve got my sights set on the boss’s chair. For now, I’m happy to just keep learning as much as I can and growing in my role as sales manager.”

Discovering the HVAC industry has been a blessing for Ronningen.

“Getting into this business has opened my eyes to the importance of encouraging our children to explore the trades,” he said. “Not a day goes by where I don’t hear dealer say, “I wish I could find more help. I can’t grow without more skilled technicians.” One of my missions is to help spread the word and to develop programs that might entice the younger generation to explore a career in HVACR.”

When not working, Ronningen enjoys bowling, golf, photography, and spending time with his family.

“My biggest accomplishment in life is my family,” he said. “I have an amazing wife who supports me and two fantastic little boys who are the joy in my life.”
