2025 Top Women in HVAC: Jennifer Manzo

Jennifer Manzo
How and when did you enter the HVACR industry?
I entered the industry full-time as the COVID pandemic hit. I had been with my HVACR boyfriend for 14 years at that point and had worked as a here-and-there helper when it was needed, so I had a connection with HVAC that most women don't have. I pulled my kids out of school to homeschool them, and was looking for HVAC vocational online courses when I stumbled on SkillCat and decided to try it myself before having my kids go through. I ended up with my EPA and jumped swiftly into the trade with both feet.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of working in HVACR?
Teaching, mentoring, and tech support will always be my answer. Not only do I get to help so many people find community and support, but I also gain so much knowledge and experience so rapidly to use in continuing our efforts with the coalition to bring manufacturers, owners, and techs together in an industrywide network.

How can we increase the number of women in HVACR?
Make it a safe place for women to do their jobs and offer them equal pay and benefits, and they will come. Representation matters, and social media is helping us draw women in, but when they get here, there are little to no resources to keep them. As much as we try, the HVA-Chicks Coalition is free and unfunded, so we can only do so much. It's up to each individual company owner, leader, and technician to choose women in HVAC.
What remains on your HVACR bucket list — what do you aspire to do that you haven’t accomplished yet?
I have done so many things I never thought I'd do. But really, the only thing that remains on that bucket list is continuing change. We've made such an impact already that what seemed impossible six years ago, I'm now hopeful to see in my lifetime and career. The only thing I've ever wanted was male and female, old and young, owners, manufacturers, instructors, and techs working in harmony and sharing knowledge.
What advice do you have for women who are considering entering the HVACR field?
Seek out the coalition. Everything we do is free, and it works. Aside from that, don't expect too much or too little. It's an amazing career for those who are built for it, male or female. Don't allow the negatives to push you out or keep you out without first asking for help, because there is a lot of it out there. You are strong enough, capable enough, and smart enough to be the best technician possible. You just have to want it and not let anyone, or anything, stop you from reaching your goals.
