Many of you have personal New Year’s resolutions. Today think about resolutions for improving your business, specifically your customer service department. Here’s how to get started:

Step One: Speak with your team. Ask them where they feel they can improve. If you have ideas of your own, introduce them after your team has shared. Together, develop a list of improvement resolutions.

Step Two: Put the improvements on the wall then have the group develop a plan on how it can be achieved. Try to get a time frame for completion and, if the project seems big or complicated, break it up into smaller chunks. Once you have the list of resolutions on the wall and a rough idea of how to accomplish them, it’s time to get to work.

Step Three: Assign each member of your team to be in charge of at least one aspect of improvement. This will get everyone working together to make their company and their jobs better. The person in charge of a resolution will be the one to report on its progress every time you check in.

Depending on the size of your shop you might have responsibility for some yourself and that is a great thing.

Start your new year with everyone in the company working toward a mission of improvement. Make sure you work alongside them to send the message that it is a team effort. Remember, most resolutions fail because they have no plan and are easily abandoned. Following these steps will help you succeed and be able to celebrate your successes all year.
