With the advent of the 13 SEER standard, good, better, best selling may soon be out the window. Or will it? The people at Bryant take a very different view.

Many in this industry have the urge to give something back to society. There are plenty of fine examples of manufacturers, contractors, and wholesalers giving something back to their communities.

Are we contractors moving quickly enough into the electronic world? Are we taking advantage of the opportunities that may be out there using today's technology?

You've seen the ad for Las Vegas "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas." Based on the economic explosion in China and the increasing trade deficit between the United States and China, some wish that the results of Chinese development would stay there.

In an attempt to save customers money, some may be tempted to hook a 13-SEER unit to the existing evaporator. This mistake could lead to lawyers, courts, and business-wrecking judgments.

Recent information suggests that the amount of refrigerant produced for our industry's consumption is not being recovered at the same level. But our industry recovers, recycles, and reclaims refrigerants, does it not? Evidently, not to the extent that it should.

Technologies that were once used exclusively in commercial-industrial applications, such as air conditioning in its early days, often find their way to home use. The latest such technology to undergo this application shift is combined heat and power (CHP).

Although the trade has maintained a need for experienced service techs and will for years to come, there may not be money available to hire people. Add to that a weather-dependent industry, and it's a challenge to run a contracting company these days.
