This month on www.achrnews.com we are running an online poll to gauge our web visitors’ opinions on the regional standards rule established by the Department of Energy (DOE). Although the poll has only been up for a week at the time of writing this column, I am already disturbed by the early results.
HVAC is not a sexy career. To be fair, most careers aren’t that sexy either, but somehow it seems easier to sell the idea of rocket scientist than HVAC technician. The question is: How does an industry make itself more attractive?
I’m not sure many people in the HVACR industry started 2012 with a New Year’s resolution that went something like, “I want to be totally confused over the cost and availability of R-22.”
Call me crazy, but I love going to AHR Expo because I always learn about some really cool products, meet a lot of interesting people, and hear about how The NEWS has had an impact on the HVACR industry.
These comments are concerning the litigation opposing the Department of Energy’s rule establishing regional standards for air conditioners, heat pumps, and furnaces.
Having just returned from the International Builder’s Show in Orlando, I have to remark that the show has downsized itself quite noticeably. Though what might be called the world’s largest home and garden show is less than its gargantuan self of years past, it is still an awesome event.
