The human and social costs of the earthquake in Chile have been well reported. Now we can look at the possible far-reaching effects to the country’s business and transportation infrastructure. Chile is the largest exporter of copper in the world, so the most immediate effect is an increase in the cost of anything that uses copper. That, of course, includes HVAC equipment.

Bill Landis, J.K. Mechanical sales manager, noted that the contractor’s role has expanded. “We continue to provide quality installations and service,” he said, “but now we’re assuming the expanded role of energy-efficiency expert and also helping customers take advantage of tax credit and rebate programs.”
On Jan. 13, a panel of judges selected the four Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) student chapter teams that will make oral presentations of their bid proposals at MCAA’s 2009-2010 Student Chapter Competition, which will be held today at the MCAA Annual Convention in San Francisco.
