Hemant Mehta’s WMGroup must be doing something right because his team has been fine-tuning HVAC systems for the same major New Jersey pharmaceutical company since 1984. The latest improvement involved the upgrading of the chiller systems at the company’s 100-acre research and development campus.
While it may never be possible for an HVAC contractor to chill out on the job, installing and servicing chillers continues to be easier and easier, as, according to several manufacturers, today’s chillers are being designed with the contractor in mind.
The chillers at Broward Health Medical Center were not achieving the kW per ton for which they were rated — a serious problem that they had not been aware of before, and which had probably cost them over $1 million in excess energy use since installation.
