A composite foam insulation panel being developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and partners could reduce wall-generated heating and cooling loads in buildings by 38 to 50 percent, potentially saving homeowners $150 or more per year.
The AT/ATR-LS current transducer combines a current transformer and signal conditioner that is great for monitoring large loads. The AT/ATR-LS is easy to install due to a large, split-core design.
Review of the Functionality and Capabilities of the Software Ensures Compliance
February 28, 2014
ACCA has recognized Avenir Software’s HeatCAD® (for residential heating and cooling load calculations) and LoopCAD® (for radiant and snow melt system designs) as “Powered by Manual J®.” This is the sixth software provider to earn this designation from ACCA for its product offerings.
APR Control provides part-load control for direct expansion air conditioning systems, reducing short cycling conditions and risks of coil frosting and liquid slugging. By modulating system capacity, the APR Control extends runtimes to improve humidity control and stabilize temperatures.
Public Review Period Has Comment Deadline of Feb. 24, 2014

Unpredictable Fluctuations in Renewable Energy Create Challenges for Utilities
November 18, 2013
One of the challenges of relying on renewable energy, such as solar and wind, is that changes in weather conditions can lead to sudden drops in the amount of power provided. One way utilities can handle this is by “shedding,” or reducing, some of their electrical load.
Outdated internal equipment heat gain data can result in oversized HVAC systems and higher operating costs, noted ASHRAE. To assist the industry in defining these loads and designing cost-efficient HVAC systems, internal equipment heat gain and load density data have been updated in the newest edition of the ASHRAE Handbook.
