The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced the first major software update to its Home Energy Scoring Tool. DOE said the Home Energy Scoring Tool allows homebuyers to compare homes on an apples-to-apples basis and provides recommendations for energy efficiency improvements.

The home energy management (HEM) market has struggled to gain traction, particularly from a utility standpoint, says Navigant Research. However, HEM systems have picked up momentum since early 2012, as non-utility stakeholders have moved in and started to lay the groundwork for growth.
Though industry leaders agree that the provisions will probably be renewed, it may not happen for a while, which would again leave some manufacturers, distributors, and contractors in limbo.

Instead of just reading the literature or talking to their distributor about the product, some contractors are literally bringing their work home with them by installing these products inside their own residences.
Well-trained comfort consultants should not only point out all the benefits that come with a properly installed, highly efficient furnace, but they should take the opportunity to build trust with the homeowners so they feel comfortable investing in a more expensive system.
