New systems feature improved comfort, energy efficiency

It’s time once again for the annual Cooling Showcase. The NEWS’ annual issue has traditionally introduced the latest air conditioning units available for the upcoming summer season.
In this project, Faure QEI used the Envenio Onboarding Program to leverage on-demand CFD simulation software, EXN/Aero, alongside support and training from Envenio engineers.
The project set out to assess the performance of a hospital operating room, with the aim of identifying and suggesting any overall improvements that could be made.
Integrated Facility Services (IFS) installed the energy-efficient HVAC system at the $26 million O’Fallon Justice Center, which opened in December, 2017. The 96,000-square-foot justice center houses the O’Fallon Police Department and Municipal Courts, Missouri. The construction manager was McCarthy Building Companies and the architect was Wilson Estes Police Architects.
When it comes time to replace an HVAC system, I understand that most people just want a simple answer. For one thing, a new furnace and air conditioner is a big investment. In addition, it’s not something people buy often, so not many people are familiar with the product s or the process.
Modern refrigerant systems are designed to be efficient and leak free. Refrigerant systems are pressurized and, in reality, it is widely accepted that no pressurized system is entirely leak free; it is simply a case of how much and where the system is leaking.
When the Marriott in West Philadelphia decided to do a major renovation of the rooms, lobby, and conference space, they needed to minimize revenue loss while under construction. It was also time to update the aging HVAC system as hotel management had received numerous complaints of loud HVAC units. Hotel management knew they would lose too much time if they had to replace entire cabinets or systems because each room would be under construction for much longer with the replacement of drywall.
Not only do temperature controlled self-storage units offer an extra luxury for their tenants, but it also puts more money in the business owner's pocket since they can charge higher rent. This brings great news to HVAC contractors who, in the midst of a growing economy, are eager to conduct as much business as possible.

The Ice Cub is a compact, home-optimized HVAC system comprised of an ultra-high-efficiency compressor and ice tank with heat exchanger. The compressor operates in multiple modes. It can cool the home like a conventional a/c unit or, store energy in the form of cooling by freezing water in the ice tank.
