The North American Sustainable Refrigeration Council (NASRC), a 501(c)(3) environmental nonprofit working to advance climate-friendly natural refrigerants in supermarkets, is hosting a Natural Refrigerant Training Summit from April 30 to May 2, 2024, at the Southern California Edison's Energy Education Center in Irwindale, California. Designed for refrigeration technicians of all experience levels, this event is free to attend and will offer comprehensive training on CO2 and propane refrigeration systems from various manufacturers and industry professionals.

The summit was inspired by NASRC’s Workforce Development Assessment Report recommendations, which outlined the commercial refrigeration industry’s increasingly critical technician shortage. Published in January 2023, the report proposed data-driven solutions to improve technician recruitment, training, and retention to grow the workforce.

The free, three-day in-person event will include concurrent technician trainings on CO2 and propane from multiple manufacturers and industry experts, as well as an exhibit hall featuring the latest natural refrigerant products and service offerings.

While the training portion of the event is open to refrigeration technicians, local HVACR students are invited to participate in a networking session on April 30th from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to:

  • Learn about commercial refrigeration career opportunities;
  • Build connections with 300+ industry stakeholders;
  • View the exhibit hall of the newest technology and service offerings; and
  • Explore apprenticeship, work-based learning, and employment opportunities.
