TAMPA, Fla. — The Independent Contractor Exchange (I.C.E.) Group held its 5th annual meeting Sept.12-14 at the Tampa Waterside Marriott Hotel and Marina. I.C.E. is a group of over 60 independent contractors specializing in installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of large commercial and industrial cooling systems or, building and process control systems. The meeting was hosted by TD Industries, located in Dallas Texas, and was attended by over 200 members and guests from the U.S., Canada, and Dubai, UAE.

The meeting agenda was designed to bring unique value to I.C.E. contractors and their clients. Both technical and business topics were presented that affect today’s contractors and commercial and industrial customers. Topics included: safety and rigging; building a best-in-class sales team; EPA rule changes and refrigerant conversion options; Danfoss VTT and product updates; service management and accounting software; York YT upgrades with MCS controls; IoT big data and how it is changing the industry; Smardt chiller retrofit program; optimization of chiller plants from Johnson Controls; and emerging technologies in water treatment and inductive absorbers.

The I.C.E. Group instituted a new award this year for “The Most Innovative Project.” There were six entries and first place was awarded to American Chiller Service, ACS, of San Francisco. ACS designed a chiller replacement solution that used a unique temporary cooling solution for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The ACS solution eliminated job cost and downtime for the FAA.

The mission of I.C.E. is to improve people, companies, and the industry through technical support and training, sharing of best practices, and maintaining positive relationships with strategic partners in the industry.
