Wi-Fi®-capable Residential Communicating Control

Johnson Controls recently introduced the Wi-Fi®-capable Luxaire® Acclimate™ Residential Communicating Control, offering an intuitive interface and remote access, making installation and troubleshooting easy.

The unit instantly syncs with an integrated control that connects each piece of intelligent Luxaire Acclimate equipment – gas furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and air handlers – via familiar four-wire connections and a plug and play design. Configuration of the unit is easy through contractor-accessible menus.

Contractors can ask homeowners to provide them with access to automated system faults and notification alerts via email.

The Wi-Fi capability provides homeowners with remote access to the control system from their smartphone or tablet device using the IntelliComfort™ mobile app, allowing them to easily monitor the status of every enabled system device –from the air conditioner to the furnace to the air handler to the heat pump.

Mechanical Seal Primary Rings for Sealing Refrigerants and Other Low Viscosity Liquids

Metallized Carbon Corp. has introduced mechanical seal primary rings for sealing refrigerants and other low viscosity liquids.

Designing mechanical seals for sealing refrigerants and other low viscosity liquids has been a difficult problem for seal manufacturers for many years.  It has now been established that mechanical seals with antimony impregnated, carbon-graphite primary rings and solid silicon carbide counter face rings can solve this problem.  Low viscosity liquids such as Freon refrigerants, liquid oxygen, liquid carbon dioxide, propane, ethylene and acetone are now being successfully sealed using mechanical seals with Metcar Grade M-444, antimony impregnated, carbon-graphite primary seal rings.

Looking for quick answers on air conditioning, heating and refrigeration topics? Try Ask ACHR NEWS, our new smart AI search tool. Ask ACHR NEWS →

It is the self-polishing characteristic of the M-444, antimony impregnated, carbon-graphite material and the high dimensional stability of both solid silicon carbide and antimony impregnated carbon-graphite that enable these two materials to run in the required close proximity.

COMFORT PM Recirculating Pump Uses AUTOADAPT to Cut Residential Energy Costs up to 85 percent

The new Grundfos COMFORT PM AUTO® range of residential circulating pumps sets the standard for intelligent and energy-efficient hot water recirculation through its AUTOADAPT function, which learns the household’s consumption patterns and then adapts to it.

When using the AUTOADAPT mode, average run times are only three hours per day, yielding up to an 85 percent power and 48 percent heat/energy savings over conventional constant-speed circulators.

The single phase, 115V pump motor yields up to 6.5 GPM and uses two temperature sensors — one within the pump and another connected by a cable installed in the hot-water flow pipe.

The AUTOADAPT function is so powerful that eight out of every 10 installations can rely on this feature to automatically select the optimal setting, with no additional human intervention. For the installer, that simply means plug and play and walk away.
