April 2016 Tech of the Month: James Thomas
Tech of the Month: James Thomas
Name: James Thomas
Title: Lead service technician, Air Control Air Conditioning & Heating, Lake Havasu City, Arizona
Why He’s Tech of the Month: As lead service technician at Air Control Air Conditioning & Heating, Thomas specializes in residential and commercial maintenance and repair. The Georgia native is known for his Southern charm, his willingness to help, and his devotion to customers.
“He has worked for my family’s air conditioning company for the last seven years,” said Amanda Zink, manager, Air Control. “He’s always willing to go above and beyond for the company and its customers. If something is needed of him, he never says no or is unwilling to help. He’s always willing to learn new things and attend training classes, as needed. We consider him our go-to guy.”
Thomas said he enjoys being able to use his problem-solving skills on a daily basis. “One of my favorite things about being an HVAC technician is being sent on challenging or difficult calls that others have struggled to resolve,” he said.
Thomas helps with the Energy Star startups of many new construction jobs and is involved in startups utilizing variable-speed, zoning, or variable refrigerant flow (VRF) equipment.
“Day in and day out, he goes above and beyond,” Zink said. “He’s capable of handling the most difficult customers and technical calls. He’s skilled in everything from zoning to VRF, variable-speed systems, 50-ton commercial units at our local aquatic center, chillers at local manufacturing plants, and much more. Also, we live in one of the hottest places in the country, where temperatures reach 125°F-plus in the summer, yet James never complains.”
Thomas’ goal, he said, is simply to keep learning, especially as HVAC technologies continue to evolve. “In the coming years, I hope to continue my education on the most technologically advanced residential systems and to stay on the cutting-edge of the trade.”
