Oil Heat Cares Raises Funds in ‘Prison'
EAST PETERSBURG, Pa. - On October 17, in order to benefit the Oil Heat Cares Foundation, seminar attendees toured the historic Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia and learned some technical tips from steam and hydronics pro Dan Holohan, a cofounder of the foundation. With cooperation from Crown Boilers, the foundation raised $5,000.
Eastern State Penitentiary opened in 1829 and was one of the most expensive and most copied buildings in the United States at the time. One of the most notorious criminals to serve time in this prison was Al Capone. When the facility was completed in 1836, the prison covered 11 acres, had state-of-the-art plumbing and sewage systems, 450 centrally heated cells, and was considered an architectural marvel. Each cell even had a flush toilet, a luxury at the time.
After the tour, attendees participated in Holohan’s seminar, “Breaking the Laws of Physics - Don’t Do the Crime if You Can’t Do the (Service) Time.”
Oil Heat Cares is a Not-for-Profit Foundation (501c-3) that assists needy persons and organizations with the replacement of their oil heating appliances. The National Association of Oil Heating Service Managers (NAOHSM) has 30 chapters throughout the northeastern United States. Oil Heat Cares projects can be initiated by a chapter or by individual members.
