After years of planning, design, and construction, Belfast Cohousing & Ecovillage is complete. All of the homes were built to the passive house standard: they use 90 percent less energy to heat and cool than a typical code-built home. To maintain healthy IAQ, each home is equipped with a HRV system.

The first multifamily building in Vancouver aiming at meeting the stringent passive house energy standard is slated to commence construction. Designed by Marken Design + Consulting, the duplex building will use up to 90 percent less energy for heating and cooling and save up to 65 percent on operational costs compared to a standard home.
What is a passive house? In short, it is an energy efficient home that demands little energy to function. The most energy demanding aspect of a home is the heating and cooling, so passive houses are typically focused on reducing energy use in these areas.
