Should techs sell? Are customers really NATE-concerned?

Do you ever wonder what treasures lie inside the magnetic stripes on the back of credit cards? The temptation to learn more about these hidden treasures is what has opened a cottage industry for would-be credit card thieves.

It is the time of year for reviewing all the forecasts from 2006 and making early adjustments to the 2007 plan. If you’re at all like me, most of you hope that no one will recall the projections you made last year at this time.

Now that many of you are committed to getting more involved in the service and service-replacement business, it’s time to review some of the seemingly minor but important changes you need to put in place to ensure excellent customer service.

For a while a ‘good and bad’ issue has lodged in the back of my mind. It concerns carbon dioxide (CO2). It is being touted as a viable refrigerant in HVACR. At the same time, it is also a greenhouse gas.

Comments made by a television news anchor/reporter, part of a daily series of online tips, have resulted in an outraged community of HVAC professionals. An HVAC contractor has created a Website to allow the trade to voice its displeasure.

While hitting the road the last few years to interview winners in The NEWS’ “Best Contractor to Work for” contest, I have noticed an underlining theme. Usually, the winners treat their employees as humans, not strictly numbers.

In the last 18 months, DOE has sat in on meetings in which manufacturers’ equipment test procedures for efficiency ratings have been challenged. So, the government’s interest in this industry isn’t random. But what has brought about the high level of interest in the installation procedures utilized by contractors?
