Albuquerque’s new Energy Conservation Code calls for raising HVAC equipment standards on all new and retrofit commercial and residential applications to 15 SEER air conditioning and 90 percent AFUE furnace equipment. While the tree huggers might approve, not so with local wholesalers and contractors.
I am encouraged when I read about influential people in the educational field who speak out in defense of the trades. In this case, I’m talking about Cheri Jimeno, president of New Mexico State University-Alamogordo. She recently wrote a very interesting column for Alamogordo Daily News. The headline was “Voc ed not just for ‘bad’ kids.”
The Women in HVACR organization got its start a few years ago. It was the brainchild of a few perceptive people who realized that this industry needed help if it is to meet the growing needs of a world that just can’t live without its air conditioning, to say nothing of its heating.
The industry and the EPA have been doing a lot of number crunching about supplies of R-22. To allow enough of that refrigerant to service R-22 equipment for the normal life of that equipment, those folks say about 50 percent of all R-22 recovered needs to come back for reclaim. The best guess now is that less than 10 percent is coming back. The question therefore is what is happening to the other 90 percent.
Do you want to see The NEWS bring back its feature on the Top 10 residential contractors in replacement/add-on and in new construction? We’re taking a vote on it. In this election process, there are no caucuses, super delegates, primaries, or a convention. Just a straight “yes” or “no” ticket. As is the American way, majority will rule.
Some things put a smile on my face and make me chuckle despite the doom and gloom that we constantly are barraged with from the general media. One of those things is the carousel of new products that will make life easier and improve everyone’s quality of life. If I mention the words Ionic Breeze do you get my drift?
