A federal judge has halted the merger of the United Transportation Union (UTU) and the Sheet Metal Workers International Association (SMWIA), finding that relevant terms of the proposed combination weren’t disclosed to members. The judge issued a preliminary injunction after ruling the plaintiffs, UTU members opposing the merger, were likely to win the case on its merits and would be irreparably harmed if the merger went through.

The American Indoor Air Quality Council (IAQ Council) is welcoming assistance in its fight against consumer fraud from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Local BBBs are contacting the IAQ Council office to verify claims of certification found on company Websites. In cases where claims are inaccurate, some BBBs are giving companies as little as 14 days to correct the errors.
The National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) introduced an enhanced Quality Assurance Program (QAP) to ensure swift, single-source mediation and resolution of disputes between NEBB professionals and their customers. Under the QAP, NEBB will intervene if the customer feels a NEBB-certified firm has failed to perform in accordance with procedural standards.

Denso Corp. has begun testing industrial heat pump air conditioners using biodiesel fuel at its headquarters in Kariya, Aichi, Japan. In the test, Denso examines the system’s compatibility and durability when using biodiesel fuel - refined from cooking oil used at the company’s cafeterias.
