Sustainable Power Group (sPower) has acquired the assets of Tioga Energy Inc., a solar project developer. Tioga Energy operated in the solar distributed generation market and constructed and operated facilities across seven states since 2007.

The Manitowoc Co. Inc. has announced that Robert M. Hund will assume the role of president of Manitowoc’s Foodservice segment, effective Aug. 1. Hund will report to Glen Tellock, chairman and chief executive officer of the company. 

The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) International has released the 2013 Experience Exchange Report®. BOMA said the report showed a 9 percent decrease in utility costs for private-sector office buildings and a 3.9 percent decrease in total operating expenses in 2012 compared to 2011.

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Gina McCarthy as the new administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). McCarthy previously served as assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation.

The OpenADR Alliance announced that the Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) smart grid standard enables compliance with the new Title 24 California Energy Code, in effect Jan. 1, 2014. The new code includes more stringent regulations for demand response (DR) capabilities within lighting and HVAC.

With the launch of dozens of successful pilot programs globally, the adoption rate of microgrids is expected to accelerate over the next several years. According to a report from Navigant Research, North America is currently the leading microgrid market and will remain the leader through 2020.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced an award of $10 million for six projects to help small commercial buildings save money by saving energy. The projects are aimed at developing user-friendly tools and resources that can be easily deployed at any small building.

The Affordable Comfort Inc. (ACI) board of directors has announced the resignation of CEO Amy Fazio. Fazio joined ACI in February 2010 and the board said she successfully led the organization through a time when the industry faced several significant challenges.

The National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) announced that Robert J. Linder, P.E., NEBB president-elect, was presented with ASHRAE’s Distinguished Service Award at the ASHRAE Annual Conference in Denver.
