New York-based company ThermoLift Inc. has won the 2014 Ultra-Light Startup’s Future Energy Competition, beating out more than 200 competitors. ThermoLift’s highly efficient natural gas-driven thermal air conditioner and heat pump is said to have the potential to reduce energy consumption by 30 to 50 percent. 

Ice Energy, a leading provider of distributed thermal energy storage, has partnered with Capstone College, Pasadena, Calif., to develop an interactive training program designed to educate students, local technicians, and contractors in the disciplines of thermal energy storage, HVAC, and refrigeration.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a $10 million funding opportunity to help demonstrate and deploy energy efficiency technologies for commercial buildings, including projects that will bring next generation building systems and components to a broader market faster.

United States shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 370,582 units in January 2014, up 23 percent from 301,176 units shipped in January 2013, according to Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) statistics.

Carmel Software has announced the release of its HVAC Duct Sizer (Universal) app, which now runs on the Apple iPad in addition to the iPhone. This means that the same app will run on both devices and adjust its screen size accordingly.

Xylem Inc., a leading global water technology company, announced that Patrick K. Decker has been named president and chief executive officer, and will be appointed a member of the board of directors. He joins the company from Harsco Corp., where he had been president and CEO.
