Measuring duct static pressure is a fundamental part of
diagnosing how a duct system is performing. It’s kind of like getting your
blood pressure tested when you go to the doctor.
Thirteen years ago, the HVACR program at the Upper Valley
Joint Vocational School (UVJVS) in Piqua, Ohio, had only 12 students - and
that’s junior and senior classes combined. It was in grave danger of being
closed. Instructors Scott Naill and Tony Trapp have been instrumental in
turning the program around.
The problem of “ant nest” coil corrosion is not really a new
one. And it has little to do with R-410A in the system. Formicary (literally
ant nest) coil corrosion has been occurring throughout the industry for years,
on all manufacturers’ brands.

always been important, the push for higher SEER ratings has added importance to
operating efficiency. That efficiency can be maintained with precise superheat
and subcooling measurements.
The Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and the
Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) have recently been engaged
in discussions to explore a possible combination or merger of the two
organizations.
A lot of association meetings are cast in beautiful surroundings and provide ample time for pleasure and relaxation, as well as the obligatory committee meetings. The Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA) had all that would normally be expected, and a little more.
When former President Bill Clinton stepped to a podium in New York City to convene the C-40 Large Cities Climate Summit, he was, in effect, opening the door for expanded opportunities for HVAC contractors in areas ranging from the installation of new energy-efficient equipment to major retrofits, with a special emphasis on performance contracting.
