Company awards five $1,000 scholarships to veterans for training

The Dwyer Group has been active in helping military veterans as the originator of the VetFran program that offers veterans a discount on the purchase of a franchise. Now the franchisor of trade service brands announced it is awarding five veterans a $1,000 scholarship for franchise training or other franchise opening costs.

The Dwyer Group Inc., one of the largest franchising companies of trade service brands including the Aire Serv® heating and cooling brand, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of VetFran, a program started by the company’s late founder Don Dwyer Sr. as a pathway to business ownership for military veterans.

The Veteran Asset, a nonprofit whose mission is facilitating solar training and placing its graduates into jobs within the renewable energy industries, has announced its first female graduate.
The shortage of well-trained HVAC technicians has plagued the industry for years and projections insist the problem isn’t going away anytime soon. However, many are finding qualified, desciplined help from those who once donned uniforms decorated with different badges and stripes.

The first class of Marine trainees at Camp Pendleton have graduated from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) solar job training pilot program, which is aimed at preparing service members for careers in the solar industry as solar photovoltaic (PV) system installers, sales representatives, system inspectors, and other jobs.
While a shortage of competent HVAC technicians has plagued the industry for more than a decade, one national contractor has uncovered a very effective way to fill that void.
On behalf of Scotsman Ice Systems, Scotsman Industries has donated $10,000 to support A Legacy for Learning Corp.’s scholarship program, which provides tuition for unemployed and underemployed military veterans to enroll in a fast-track basic technician training program in commercial foodservice equipment repair.
