Houston-area homeowners and businesses with properties damaged by the recent historical flooding are potentially facing looming problems with their climate control systems that may not be obvious to the untrained eye. Carrier and Air-Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), a trade association representing the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) industry, are warning that standing water associated with flooding can result in system failure well after the water has receded.

Sales of cooling equipment increased this summer, according to the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), whose combined June and July 2017 reports showed that U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps were up about 5.7 percent compared to units shipped during the same time frame in 2016.

Visitors to the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West, Florida, enjoy stepping back in time to see how the prolific author lived during his 10 years in residence there in the 1930s. The two-story home was built in 1851 in the Spanish Colonial style, constructed of native limestone hewn from the grounds. The home was in poor shape when Hemingway and his wife, Pauline, purchased it, but the couple could see beyond the rubble and ruin to appreciate the grand architecture and stateliness of the home.
