Seven Fuel Cells To Power Major New York Installation
UTC Fuel Cells, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (South Windsor, CT), announced that it is providing seven PC25™ fuel cell power plants to Verizon to provide primary power for a call-routing center on Long Island, NY. The 200-kW units, which will generate a total of 1.4 MW of electricity and 900,000 Btu of usable heat, will form one of the largest fuel cell installations in the world.
Verizon also plans to install four natural gas-powered generators to operate in parallel with the fuel cells as a hybrid system that can generate up to 4.4 MW of electrical power. The generators will serve as backup power.
