Obituaries: Sherman, Flesher, And Maloney

March 21, 2003

Terry Sherman

MILWAUKEE — Terry Sherman, Milwaukee Valve’s vice president of sales, passed away suddenly while attending the WIT Buying Group meeting in Dallas. He was 54.

Mr. Sherman joined Milwaukee Valve in 1985 as Midwest regional sales manager. He was promoted to national sales manager in 1986, and was selected to run the Hammond Division after Milwaukee Valve acquired Hammond in 1991. In 2001, Mr. Sherman was named vice president of sales when Milwaukee Valve and Hammond Valve combined their sales functions.

Mr. Sherman spent more than 30 years in the pipes, valves, and fittings (PVF) industry. Last year, he was appointed to the American Supply Association’s Executive Council, Associate Member Division.

“Terry’s wisdom and industry knowledge will be sorely missed,” said Rick Giannini, president of Milwaukee Valve. “Over the past year, the company has been involved in strategic planning for the future of the company. Terry was a key influence in helping to create the structure and processes that are enabling us to move forward. While we mourn the loss to his wife and family, we are eternally grateful for his service and dedication to Milwaukee Valve.”

He is survived by his wife Karen, son Brian, and daughters Kelly and Brittany. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association at its National Center, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231; 800-242-8721; www.americanheart.org.

Donald Flesher

DEARBORN, Mich. — Donald Frank Flesher, owner and founder of contracting firm Arctic Air in Detroit, died of a heart attack March 15. He was 73.

Mr. Flesher founded Arctic Air in 1959; the company installs commercial and industrial heating and air conditioning systems. His son Michael will continue to run the company.

Mr. Flesher was born in Omaha, Neb., and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Nebraska. He came to Michigan in the early 1950s and received his registered professional engineer’s license in 1957. He was said to have received Michigan boiler installer license No. 5.

Mr. Flesher was president of the Association of Service and Mechanical Contractors from 1973-74, and was also a life member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
