For the fourth quarter of 2003, unit heater shipments in Canada continued to increase, going up 32 percent over the fourth quarter of 2002. Chiller bookings increased by 14 percent, commercial air conditioning shipments by 7 percent, and residential air conditioning shipments by 5 percent. Consistent with the rest of the year, residential furnace shipments changed very little, decreasing by 2 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2002.

For the year, unit heater shipments led by 30 percent, followed by residential air conditioning shipments at 4 percent, and commercial air conditioning at 2 percent. Residential furnace shipments were almost stationary, increasing by less than 1 percent. Chiller bookings decreased by 8 percent.

Key figures and trends are as follows:

Commercial air conditioning shipments increased by 7 percent, from 10,536 in the fourth quarter of 2002 to 11,285 in the fourth quarter of 2003. Year-to-date shipments increased by 2 percent, from 40,108 for 2002 to 40,828 for 2003.

Residential air conditioning shipments increased 5 percent from 23,792 in the fourth quarter of 2002 to 24,996 in the fourth quarter of 2003. Year-to-date shipments increased by 4 percent, from 270,913 for 2002 to 282,858 for 2003.

Residential furnace shipments decreased 2 percent from 96,964 in the fourth quarter of 2002 to 95,193 in the fourth quarter of 2003. Year-to-date shipments increased by less than 1 percent, from 291,142 for 2002 to 292,127 for 2003.

Unit heater shipments increased by 32 percent from 11,731 in the fourth quarter of 2002 to 15,481 in the fourth quarter of 2003. Year-to-date shipments increased by 30 percent, from 28,354 for 2002 to 36,962 for 2003.

Chiller bookings increased by 14 percent from 173 in the fourth quarter of 2002 to 197 in the fourth quarter of 2003. Year-to-date shipments decreased by 8 percent, from 722 for 2002 to 666 for 2003.
