MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) reported that, during the second quarter of 2011, ductless split systems shipments showed the highest product sector gain, increasing by 68 percent. Other sectors showed increases, including unit heater shipments by 7 percent and commercial air conditioning shipments by 3 percent. Residential furnace shipments decreased by 10 percent, chiller bookings by 5 percent, and residential air conditioning shipments by 2 percent compared to the second quarter of 2010.

Key figures and trends are as follows:

• Commercial air conditioning shipments increased 3 percent, from 9,134 in the second quarter of 2010 to 9,412 in the second quarter of 2011. Year-to-date shipments increased 5 percent, from 16,391 for the second quarter 2019 to 17,224 for the second quarter 2011.

• Residential air conditioning shipments decreased 2 percent from 107,124 in the second quarter of 2010 to 104,654 in the second quarter of 2011. Year-to-date shipments increased 2 percent from 143,578 for the second quarter 2010 to 146,434 for the second quarter 2011.

• Residential furnace shipments decreased 10 percent from 59,667 in the second quarter of 2010 to 53,418 in the second quarter of 2011. Year-to-date shipments decreased 17 percent from 139,980 for the second quarter 2010 to 116,368 for the second quarter 2011.

• Unit heater shipments increased by 7 percent from 3,886 in the second quarter of 2010 to 4,142 in the second quarter of 2011. Year-to-date shipments increased 9 percent from 9,469 for the second quarter 2010 to 10,355 for the second quarter 2011.

• Ductless split systems shipments increased by 68 percent from 22,244 in the second quarter of 2010 to 37,473 in the second quarter of 2011. Year-to-date shipments increased 81 percent from 34,059 for the second quarter 2010 to 61,624 for the second quarter 2011.

• Chiller bookings decreased 5 percent from 234 in the second quarter of 2010 to 223 in the second quarter 2011. Year-to-date shipments show no change from 499 for the second quarter 2010 to 499 for the second quarter 2011.
