ITASCA, IL — According to the National Safety Council (NSC), construction and utility workers are among the most susceptible to work-related injuries and deaths. The organization also says that in 2000, 1,220 construction workers were killed and 470,000 were injured. Transportation and public utility workers suffered 930 deaths and 380,000 injuries.

To address these problems, NSC has started offering its Toolbox Safety Kits. The kits are designed to help construction and utilities foremen and supervisors train crews affectively and efficiently. Each kit contains an NSC booklet for the industry, laminated trainer outline cards, laminated emergency information sheets, a dry erase marker, and employee sign-off sheets.

“A safe worksite is essential to any industry,” said Ted Borek, NSC executive vice president and chief operating officer. “The construction and utilities industries face unique challenges, especially the high turnover of seasonal and temporary workers.”

NSC believes that safety training can help to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses, reduce worker compensation costs, and improve employee morale.
