New step van “upfit” packages, customized for specific trades including hvac, are available. The specialized vans come in two models: a 9-ft, 3-in. loadspace on a 110-in. wheelbase and a 10-ft, 6-in. loadspace on a 125-in. wheelbase. Compared to a cargo van, the extra height and width of the step van adds more space for tools, supplies, and workstations, while the vehicle’s shorter wheelbases improve maneuverability, says the company. The step van also gives the driver convenient stand-up access to the cargo area, the company says.
