Yelp’s Latest Updates Push HVAC Contractors to Book Jobs on Its Platform
New AI chatbot, Calendly integration will offer recommendations, make bookings directly on Yelp

IN-APP: Yelp’s AI assistant generates recommendations based on reviews, photos, and business profile data, and presents this to potential customers in ChatGPT-style conversational format.
Used to be, Yelp was primarily a destination for reviews — a place where homeowners could compare restaurants or service providers before making a call. Now, the company is positioning itself as something more: a platform designed to move users from search to scheduled service in a single step — without leaving the Yelp platform.
With its latest update, Yelp is introducing a suite of AI-driven tools and scheduling integrations that it says will simplify how consumers find and hire local businesses.
“AI is now at the core of the Yelp experience,” the company said in its announcement.
For HVAC contractors, the changes could mean access to more high-intent leads — but also higher expectations around speed, availability, and responsiveness.
From Search Results To Chatbot Convos
At the center of the update is Yelp Assistant, a conversational AI feature that allows users to describe what they need rather than scroll through listings. Instead of searching for “a/c repair near me,” a homeowner might describe a specific issue, and the assistant will recommend businesses and guide the user toward requesting a quote or booking an appointment. The shift condenses what has traditionally been a multistep process — search, research, outreach, scheduling — into a single interaction.
“Yelp Assistant represents an entirely new discovery channel for businesses,” said Nicole Lund, vice president of product at Yelp. “Instead of scrolling through search results, customers can describe exactly what they need … and Yelp Assistant surfaces the most relevant businesses and helps them take action right in the conversation.”
Reviews Still Drive Visibility
While the interface is changing, Yelp’s underlying ranking signals are not. Recommendations generated by the assistant are still based on reviews, photos, and business profile data.

“Every answer is powered by Yelp’s authentic, in-depth community content — hundreds of millions of reviews, photos, and detailed business information contributed by real people,” the company stated. “In a recent survey we conducted with Morning Consult, nearly three out of four people said they want to see ratings and reviews from real customers when using AI search tools to find local businesses.”
For HVAC contractors, strong reviews and complete profiles will remain critical, as now they will directly influence whether or not AI surfaces the business.
Booked On Yelp
Another major component of the update is expanded scheduling integration, including a new partnership with scheduling platform Calendly.
“This summer, you’ll also be able to schedule appointments with eligible service pros through scheduling platform, Calendly, simplifying how you get your projects done,” the company announced.
For contractors who use the feature, customers will be able to request a quote via Calendly, then view the company’s real-time availability and book an appointment directly, without calling or messaging the company separately outside Yelp. The system also automatically updates appointment status — booked, pending, or canceled — within the conversation thread.
The new Calendly integration will be available for all services categories, including home, local, auto, professional, pet, event, real estate, and financial services, the company said.
Lund said this feature was a response to the changing way customers discover and interact with local businesses.
“We spend a lot of time talking to business owners, and one thing that comes through again and again is that they already have their workflows — scheduling software, lead management tools, and CRMs—and don’t want another platform to manage. They want the platforms they already use to work better together,” she said. “With our new Calendly integration … the customer books a time that works. No more back-and-forth messages or missed opportunities because someone didn't respond fast enough.”
Yelp is also rolling out updates aimed at helping businesses manage incoming leads on its platform. New inbox tools allow contractors to track where each lead stands: whether it has been contacted, scheduled, or completed.
The Changing Face Of Search
Yelp’s latest updates point to a broader trend across the service economy: a move toward faster, more transactional digital experiences. While online scheduling still isn’t commonplace in the HVAC industry, Yelp’s booking feature suggests a push to make that feature available.
The updates also reflect a continued demand for immediate, one-stop service, regardless of category. Traditionally, HVAC contractors who responded first to inquiries had an advantage. Yelp’s rollout goes a step further, prioritizing companies that make it easiest for customers to book immediately.
