Name: Orval Stier

Title: Lead Service Manager

Why He’s Tech of the Month: Stier joined Baxter Comfort Solution in Baxter, Iowa, in August 2018. Stier had attended HVAC training at a local community college and knew Baxter’s service manager from there.

“I knew it was a good spot where I could grow,” Stier said.

Today, Stier is Baxter’s lead service manager.

“Orval is a stellar technician, taking the time needed to complete each and every call regardless of his schedule,” said Bryan DeJong, owner at Baxter.

Stier views service as a new adventure every day. He enjoys getting a system working better than it ever has before and getting a grateful message from a customer.

“That really makes it easier to go out and do it again the next day,” Stier said. “It’s so rewarding.”

Stier spent nine years working at a casino, so he understands customer service. He wants customers to know he’s on their side.

“They tend to relax a little more when they know they’re going to get taken care of,” Stier said.

DeJong said an example of Stier’s commitment to his customer came on the day before Christmas last year. He was working late in the afternoon, replacing a customer’s furnace with a cracked heat exchanger, and found a problem with a propane kit installation at the end of the install.

“(Stier) took it upon himself to return to the shop and locate a furnace in inventory to pirate the gas valve from, and return to the job with it to complete the installation, thus getting central heat for the customer for the holiday,” De Jong said. “He lives intentionally in consideration of all others around him. We are grateful to have him on our staff.”

Stier wants to eventually move into service and sales at Baxter. He said he loves training and learning about all the new technology available.

“I just have an energy level about things that I’m passionate about,” Stier said. “When I share that energy level, people at my shop catch on to that.”
