CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Stockton, California-based Queirolo’s Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. was challenged with finding a way to remotely monitor its customers’ HVAC equipment and help them manage their energy usage and costs. The contracting business turned to Venstar’s Skyport® Cloud Services, which work with all of Venstar’s Wi-Fi thermostats. Founded in 1954, Queirolo’s provides HVAC services to residential and commercial customers, including retail stores, schools, office buildings, and IT rooms.

“With 258 sunny days per year in Stockton, having reliable air conditioning is essential," aid David Queirolo, owner of Queirolo’s Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. "Having remote access to our customers’ Wi-Fi thermostats helps us make sure their HVAC is working correctly and providing indoor comfort without our needing to make a service call."

THE SOLUTION

With Venstar’s Skyport Cloud Services, the Queirolo’s team is able to remotely access  customers’ commercial and residential Wi-Fi thermostats directly from the web or using the free Skyport mobile app on their mobile devices. Having a choice of how they access their customers’ thermostats makes it easy for them to monitor thermostats and troubleshoot HVAC units from wherever they are.

For a local school, Queirolo’s installed 90 Venstar Wi-Fi thermostats to control the HVAC equipment for the classrooms, kitchen, and gym. Queirolo’s team uses Skyport Cloud Services to ensure indoor comfort while monitoring energy usage. This installation also includes Venstar’s return duct sensors, supply air sensors, and Wi-Fi sensors. The sensors provide information on the air temperatures so Queirolo’s team can monitor the health of the HVAC equipment at multiple locations at the school and be alerted if there are any issues.

For a local ice cream shop, Queirolo’s team is able to closely monitor the store’s HVAC system, addressing the owner’s concern about losing his inventory if the air conditioning goes down. Queirolo’s also installed Venstar’s ColorTouch thermostats to remotely monitor the temperatures of the walk-in freezers. Recently, one of the air conditioning units failed at the store. Without Skyport, it may have been hours before anyone knew the HVAC equipment was down. However, Skyport immediately sent an alert to the Queirolo’s team, and they were able to repair the unit before the store owner was even aware of the problem.

RESULTS

The Queirolo’s team can remotely access customers’ thermostats using Skyport to examine the indoor temperatures and supply air temperatures and to help diagnose any potential issues before dispatching a service truck, which helps reduce on-site visits.

The Queirolo’s team also appreciates the thermostats’ flexible security features, which allow users to adjust the temperatures on the thermostats within a set range. With the advanced security features, the HVAC equipment cannot be left on for more than four hours in override mode, which helps reduce energy costs.

“Venstar’s ColorTouch and Explorer thermostats deliver accurate smooth operation, ease of programmability and reliable security,” Queirolo’s said. “What I love most about Skyport Cloud Services is that we can use it on a computer or a mobile device, and there’s no cost for the app or the service.”
