Cooltech Partners with Carrefour to Demo Magnetic Refrigeration
System uses a water coolant instead of a refrigerant gas to provide an eco-friendly refrigeration solution
PARIS — Cooltech Applications S.A.S., a leading magnetic refrigeration company, announced an agreement with Carrefour SA, a leading supermarket chain, to install a fully equipped magnetic cooling display cabinet at Carrefour‘s head office restaurant for a four-week period. Demonstrations in stores are to follow.
The magnetic cooling system (MRS) utilizes a water coolant instead of a refrigerant gas to provide an eco-friendly refrigeration solution. Cooltech said the technology totally eliminates the need for refrigerant gases, cuts energy consumption by up to 50 percent, reduces noise, and boosts reliability and safety.
“Our employees really enjoyed drinking fresh beverages from the innovative cabinet,” said Jean Michel Fleury, project director - international support at Carrefour. “Our intention is now to test several magnetic refrigerated display cabinets in stores. In addition to the environmental performance with no gas emission, magnetic cooling will bring significant energy savings to our stores.”
“After successful product integrations with several display case manufacturers, we are delighted to partner with a leading supermarket chain like Carrefour,” said Christian Muller, president of Cooltech. “We are convinced retail stores and supermarket chains will benefit from magnetic cooling to deploy greener and energy efficient new refrigeration solutions.”
The MRS is in beta testing at several sites in Europe and the U.S. in various configurations and is currently available for integration. A MRS version generating high cooling power — 20 kilowatt (kW) and beyond — is under development for refrigeration rack systems and complementary applications
