Dec. 9, 2002: Carrier Introduces New Water Source Heat Pump

By Greg Mazurkiewicz
December 9, 2002
SYRACUSE, NY — The new Aquazone 50RHC/50RVC — the latest edition to Carrier Corporation’s Aquazone family of water source heat pumps — is now available in 1.5-5.0 ton units. According to the company, the new product provides building owners with an efficient, compact, low-cost alternative for year-round, multi-zone heating and cooling.

The 50RHC (horizontal) and the 50RVC (vertical) standard-efficiency units are designed for new construction, retrofits, and boiler/tower installations. With an affordable installed cost, easy maintenance, durability, and an energy efficiency rating (EER) of 12.0 to 12.3, the ASHRAE 90.1-compliant 50RHC/50RVC provides low life-cycle cost, says the company. All Aquazone units are certified to the new ARI/ISO 13256-1 Standard.

David Sabatino, Carrier’s water source heat pump product manager, says the 50RHC/50RVC provides system designers and contractors with installation flexibility. The unit’s compact, low-profile cabinet design, with factory-installed hanger brackets, allows it to be tucked away into tight locations, like drop ceilings or closets, he says. A field-convertible discharge is designed to allow air orientation to be readily changed. Internally trapped condensate lines (in the 50RVC) help to further reduce installation time and costs.

“Building owners will also like the fact that Aquazone 50RHC/50RVC units can be procured and installed throughout their building in phases, as required, spreading out capital costs throughout the life of the project,” Sabatino says.

The cabinet is constructed of heavy-gage galvanized sheet metal. In addition, each 50RVC unit (more often exposed to elements mounted on the floor than the ceiling hanging 50RHC) is finished with corrosion-resistant powder paint for added durability. Also included is standard electronic condensate overflow protection with powdered paint and insulated drain pans.

“Maintenance is easy for these units,” Sabatino says. “There’s service access via panels on three sides of the compressor sections, blower inlet rings for easy motor removal, and quick connect wiring harnesses.”
