Michigan Utility Launching Green Power Pilot Program
Consumers Energy, a major Michigan utility, initiated a green power pilot program that has been approved by the Michigan Public Service Commission (PSC). Beginning in October, customers can buy 10%, 50%, or 100% of their power from renewable sources such as solar energy or wind power. The renewable energy portion of the utility bill is expected to cost the customer an extra 3.2 cents per kWh. Consumers Energy expects to have enough renewable energy capacity to handle about 18,000 homes.
