Participating businesses eligible for grants for equipment purchases
January 8, 2025
Businesses participating in PERC's Alternative Technology Demonstration & Research Program will put grant money toward the purchase of qualifying propane equipment and, following its installation, complete a survey about the equipment’s performance, emissions, costs, and energy savings.
This special publication will help commercial contractors stay on top of all the important trends in the HVAC industry. In this publication, we will cover items like predicting the future of rooftop units, showcasing energy savings achieved through retrofits, and how schools are saving energy with combined heat and power (CHP).
A one-paragraph, simple overview of the basic CHP approach reads like this: A building’s (or campus’) system uses fuel to make its own electricity, and then it applies the waste heat from that process toward its HVAC needs.

Energy represents the single fastest-growing operating cost in the lodging industry, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). Decisions on guest room equipment amplify by dozens or hundreds in a single property. The mechanical systems work on such a scale that any amount of waste can add up to a significant financial loss or missed opportunity while, on the other hand, minor savings in one area can accumulate to an appreciable gain.
Over the last several years, the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa has been replacing outmoded electrical and mechanical equipment with new, more energy-efficient equipment that saves money and decreases carbon footprint.
It’s a way to reduce wasted heat and increase industrial efficiency
December 19, 2016
Combined heat and power (CHP) systems are being used by a wide range of applications to reduce the overall energy intensity of industrial systems. In some cases, such as industrial furnaces, efficiency improvements resulting from waste heat recovery can improve energy efficiency 10-50 percent.
Fuel cells are becoming commercially established thanks to subsidies, policy, and corporate investment
