New Developments: Encapsulation provides slow release of chemicals
Polymer Technics Inc., Melbourne, FL, has developed a polymer encapsulation technology that has resulted in a new polymer-based water treatment strip, called T.R. Bio-Klean, that provides controlled release of biocides, surfactants, corrosion inhibitors, or odor counteractants, says Don J. Isoldi, inventor and president.
One application is air conditioner and refrigerator drip pans - the product's slow release of biocides controls mold and fungus problems for up to six months, compared to tablets or bleach that dissolve quickly.
Encapsulation can also make other products last longer, noted Isoldi. Active substances, in high or low concentrations, can include fragrances, disinfectants, chelators, and others.
