The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute
(AHRI) commended the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for launching a new Energy
Star® program for residential water heaters.
The program, which goes into effect Jan. 1,
2009, will cover gas-fired storage, gas-fired tankless, heat pump, and solar
water heaters. The Energy Star program for gas-fired storage water heaters will
take effect in two phases.

Emerson
Climate Technologies’ annual Technology in Action Conference (TAC) presented topics covering store design, energy efficiency, and
refrigerant issues in an effort to offer operational and energy-saving
solutions for retailers. The conference brought solutions to many of the problems that challenge supermarkets, convenience stores, box retailers, and restaurant operators.

Systems LLC, Indianapolis, has added Braeburn thermostats to its product
offering. The company will stock, imprint, and sell the full Braeburn
thermostat line. Jackson
Systems also carries a full line of thermostats from Honeywell, White-Rodgers,
Aprilaire, Climatouch, LuxPro, Invensys, and Peco.
Johnson
Controls received the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Achievement Award.
The company, a member of the International District Energy Association (IDEA),
was honored with the award at the association’s annual Campus Energy Conference
held in Boston.
Achim
(Archie) Eschborn, 56, died at his home April 19, 2008, following a brief
battle with pancreatic cancer. He was VP of sales and marketing for Revcor
Inc., and worked in the air movement industry since 1984.

The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has been awarded accreditation by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as a standards-developing organization. Many of AHRI’s standards outline technical procedures for uniformly measuring the performance of HVACR equipment.
UTC Canada Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp., has acquired Commercial Air Services Inc., a St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada-based HVAC contractor specializing in the service and repair of commercial unitary equipment. Commercial Air will operate under the Carrier Commercial Service brand effective immediately.
