The 8th China International Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning Exposition (CIHE & HVAC 2008), held at the Beijing Exhibition Center in Beijing, was the first session after the integration of CIHE and HVAC China. The event attracted more than 27,698 visitors who participated with 459 exhibitors from 23 foreign countries.
Shipments of central air conditioners and heat pumps for March jumped 75 percent, as compared to February, according to the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI). Combined U.S. factory shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps experienced a 7 percent drop as compared to 2007, in spite of the seasonal increase.
Clockwork Home Services Inc. has secured a total of $120 million in financing from Prudential Capital Partners L.P. II, Wachovia Bank N.A., and Prudential Capital Group. The company used proceeds from this transaction primarily to refinance existing debt, fund additional acquisitions, and provide a special dividend.

Organizers of the International Trade Fair for Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Ventilation (IKK) have cancelled plans to hold its expo this October in Stuttgart, Germany, clearing the way for the first ever Chillventa exposition planned for Oct. 15-17 in Nuremberg, to be the only major HVACR trade show to take place this fall in Germany.
Ruud Heating & Cooling announced its Ruud Reliable Top 10 Top Contractors for 2007. According to the company, these contractors surpassed hundreds of others across the country. This year’s first place winner, Arizona Cold Air, Mesa, Ariz., is the first Ruud Reliable Top Contractor to make its debut on the Top Contractor list in first place.
Rheem Heating & Cooling announced its Rheem Team Top 10 Top Contractors for 2007. Finishing in the top position, was Top 10 newcomer, Air Around the Clock, Coral Springs, Fla. This marked the first time a Rheem Team Top Contractor debuted in first place. Joining the company were nine repeat winners from the year before.
North American Technician Excellence (NATE) released the results of an independent study conducted among HVAC professionals who work with NATE-certified technicians. The results revealed that these professionals believe NATE certification yields a positive effect on both the marketing and the operations side of business.
The 2008 World Standards Day Paper Competition has been announced by the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee and the paper competition’s sponsor, the Standards Engineering Society (SES). The theme for this year’s paper competition is “Intelligent and Sustainable Buildings.”
